Assessment of Learner performance
The purpose of learner assessment in GSS is two fold:
First, to find out if each child is learning;
Second, to establish how far s/he has progressed in acquiring the defined competencies and in relation to the Fortnightly and Quarterly Plan and targets; and
Third, to establish the level of acquisition of skills and competencies of each learner so that the nature of subsequent intervention could be determined and planned.
Thus, assessment of individual learner skills and competencies is critical for the teacher, the supervisor and the management
In GSS, assessment is undertaken at three different levels :
- Continuous assessment;
- Quarterly assessment; and
- Annual and six monthly assessments through exams;
The purpose of each of these assessments is to measure the level of skill and competency acquired by the learner in each of the following subject areas:
- Reading (ability and enjoyment);
- Creative and Guided Writing;
- Mathematics and
- Project Work (for science and social science mainly)
